My Event Planner Emergency Kit

I’m a planner. I plan for everything. The good, the bad, and the even worse. That’s why, when I’m working an event, I’m never far from my emergency kit. One day not long ago, my husband’s shoe broke. He was at work and the sole fell right off. He ended up working the rest of the day barefoot, but if he carried an emergency kit with superglue in it, he could have glued that sucker back on.  My event planner emergency kit includes all the things I could possibly need to counter anything that could go wrong at an event. Problems happen, that’s just life. What matters to me is dealing with those problems as quickly and quietly as possible, before my clients and their guests know anything is wrong. Here’s what I carry in my emergency kit:
  • Kleenex
  • Hair clips
  • Sewing kit
  • Matches
  • Cold compress
  • Bobby pins
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Super glue
  • Antibiotic cream
  • Aspirin
  • Ibuprofen
  • Feminine products
  • Bandaids
  • Eyeglass repair kit
  • Hairspray
  • Hairbrush
  • Deodorant
  • Tic Tacs
  • Manicure set
When putting your emergency kit together, use a bag that’s going to stand out. The last thing you want in an emergency is to be unable to locate your kit. Mine is kept in an old, ugly, free tote bag. It’s perfect for me because it’s so unfortunate looking, it stands out in every environment. I always know where it is.  A well-stocked emergency kit is a crucial tool in an event planner’s tool-belt. Things don’t always go wrong, but when they do I know I’m prepared to handle anything.
