How to Make an Impact With Your Place Cards

First impressions are everything! We focus on all the big statements that our guests will see when they step foot into our event, but the details matter just as much! A personal and simple way to welcome them is with unique place cards. There is so much more to explore than typical rectangle-tent name cards! We encourage you to tap into your theme and pick out an element that you can apply to these table accessories. These few steps will help you create one-of-a-kind place cards.

Step One

We recommend starting by considering your theme and what a good shape or design might be to match it. Here’s an example of a shape we chose to match a Viking-themed Bar Mitzvah.

Step Two

Select a heavier-weight paper in your event’s color(s). You can browse paper options at places like Staples, Paper Source, Office Depot, or even Amazon. Here’s a quick read on navigating the meaning of all relevant paper vocabulary and specifications that may help you while you’re shopping!

Step Three

Cut cards into your chosen shape with a machine like a Cricut. These can be found on Amazon, and places like Michaels and Hobby Lobby. With a cutting machine like this, you won’t need to do any tedious exacto-knife work. This step will give your place cards that uniqueness that will make your guests want to keep them as a memento.

Step Four

Letter guests’ names and maybe their table assignments! This is where the functionality of these decorations comes in. If you think your own hand lettering leaves a little to be desired, you can always opt for using an alphabet stencil, which can be sought out on Etsy or at Michaels. Stamping is another great option if you’d rather not use your handwriting. One alphabet set of stamps offers a world of possibility, and you’ll just need to choose an ink color that will stand out! Here are some stamp sets that you may want to grab for projects like this!

Remember too that basic print lettering is appropriate as well. With a cute shape framing your guests’ name, you can go as simple or as extravagant with lettering as you’d like. Here’s an example of some Texas-shaped cards with sweet and simple handwriting for the names!

No matter what route you decide to go with your place cards, your guests will appreciate the personalization so much! These are a great opportunity to make an impact on your friends and family and let them know how excited you are that they’re celebrating with you! Here are some additional examples of place cards we have featured at events in the past.
